Rob Morsberger is a film composer whose scores are heard regularly on PBS and elsewhere. As a songwriter, performer and arranger he has worked with Jules Shear, The Roches, Marshall Crenshaw, Dan Zanes, Loudon Wainwright III and many more.

Thanksgiving 2007
The new Dave Roche record, titled Harp Trouble in Heaven, is now finished. This was a wonderful collaboration, with marvelous songs, vocals and guitar work from Dave supported by Rob’s production and keyboard work, together with good friends Paul Ossola on bass and Brian Dunne on drums. Helping out on background vocals were Dave’s sisters, Terre, Maggie and Suzzie Roche.

Rob wrote the arrangements, with master songwriter Jules Shear, for Shears' latest record, Dreams Don't Count. According to The All Music Guide, "...the primarily acoustic arrangements (frequently accompanied by a small string section) set off the melodies beautifully... it's as satisfying as anything Shear has ever released." Rob also played accordian, keyboards and miscellaneous other instruments. You can hear this lovely work at julesshearmusic.com.

Rob has several co-writes – eight and counting – on a forthcoming debut album by Decca recording artist Greta’s Bakery. What a cool project!.... with lovely and talented collaborators in vocalist Greta Panettieri and keyboardist Andreas Sammartino, both from Rome, and NYC native Mike LaValle on bass. World pop with a Brazilian twist… and so much more. Best of luck, and thanks, to the Bakery. And kudos to ace producer Stewart Lerman for bringing us together.

Two of Rob’s songs, co-written with Universal jazz artist Chiara Civello, can be heard on her lovely sophomore release The Space Between.

Rob could be seen performing with Loudon Wainwright III on Conan O’Brian in late May – together with Larry Campbell on pedal steel and David Piltch on upright bass.

On the scoring front, Rob scored the two hour film Judgement Day: Intelligent Design on Trial which aired November 13 and tied for the most watched program of the season on PBS. The film reunited Rob with longtime collaborator Joe McMaster, who produced, wrote and directed, and was expertly edited by Jonathan Sahula. A huge undertaking and an important film. Another, quite different premier aired a couple of weeks earlier, the very moving Marathon Challenge, produced and directed by Daniel McCabe with narration by Liev Schreiber.

For the next few months Rob will be busy scoring an expanded series three of NOVAscienceNOW, an ongoing pleasure which is really pushing the envelope of documentary television. All six episodes will air in July 2008. Check out Rob performing live on the show here! …and stand by for another appearance this summer.

So lots of fun stuff happening here in The Farmhouse lately!
